Thanks for the questions, Sunni! This estimation challenge (along with the others linked to the curriculum posts) is meant to be a quick ice breaker to start class. I modeled it after estimation180.com. My purpose for using one every day is to get the kids to start developing curiosity as soon as they walk into class. In addition, I want them to get used to estimating before solving because I believe that’s a helpful skill when doing other math problems throughout the year. Also, the kids get excited about these and ask where they are on the days we don’t do them. In my Geometry classes, the estimations are more content related (for now).
