Effects of Changing Dimensions

Learning Goal: Prepare for surface area and volume by exploring the makeup of 2D & 3D figures and the effects of changing dimensions of those shapes.



  • Common Core
    • HSG.MG.A.1 – Use geometric shapes, their measures, and their properties to describe objects (e.g., modeling a tree trunk or a human torso as a cylinder).
  • TEKS
    • G.10(B) – determine and describe how changes in the linear dimensions of a shape affect its perimeter, area, surface area, or volume, including proportional and non-proportional dimensional change
